Sustainability Facade Tools

Sustainability Facade Tools

Thermosash are experts at making buildings work better for the environment, occupants and owners - to achieve optimised high-performance outcomes we offer our clients the option of a Project Sustainability Analysis that covers different aspects of the full sustainability cycle.

Our Project Sustainability Analysis is based upon our Facade Optimisation Strategies. When specifying our facade systems Thermosash can be engaged to implement one or several of these strategies to optimise facade performance to achieve project specific sustainability goals.

The Facade Optimisation Strategies include:

Carbon Engineering and Cost Analysis

  • Embodied Carbon Calculation

Thermosash designed a tool to help inform Architects and Builders of the impact of their material choices. The Thermosash calculator provides Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) results for Thermosash products based on EN 15804+A1 and EN 15804+A2, following CWCT* guidelines. The embodied carbon calculation is based on each individual project’s bill of materials.

  • Operational Carbon - calculating the Carbon Payback Period

We understand that the carbon impact of a building should be measured over the full lifecycle, not just in the construction stage. Sometimes an increase in embodied carbon can deliver greater savings over the life of the building, as proven through carbon payback analysis.  Thermosash balances embodied carbon and operational carbon, when measured in relationship to each other, to achieve a truly low carbon design.

Energy and Comfort optimisation and Cost Analysis

  • Operational Energy - optimising material selection and design enhancement

By modelling the baseline design, Thermosash can determine material selections and panel design to enhance the performance of the finished building. Our modelling software can be utilised to compare scenarios where slight changes to the facade design are made which further reduce the cooling and/or heating loads.

  • Operational Energy - calculating the Energy Payback Period

Reducing operational energy is a commercial benefit to the building occupiers and owners. An inefficient design is paid for over the life of the building. Our energy efficiency modelling is intended to assist in reducing operational costs and provide clarity on the payback period - when the investment will pay off - by comparing the difference in the initial costs with the difference in operational energy cost over the years the building will be in operation.

  • Thermal Comfort Analysis - analysing occupant wellbeing

Thermosash analyses the thermal conditions of interior space to offer the most effective solutions for improved occupant comfort. In this way solutions are tailored to achieve results and design and building costs are directed where they are most needed.

  • Daylight and Glare Analysis

Thermosash analyses the daylight and glare factors to maximise natural light and minimise visual discomfort. Modelling can highlight problematic areas and solutions can be applied to the targeted areas to optimise operational energy through solar control.

Green Star Certification

Thermosash can assist with project sustainability goals by making a positive contribution towards achieving New Zealand (NZGBC) and Australian (GBCA) Green Star credits for projects.

  • New Zealand
  • 9 categories, worth 28 points
  • Potential to increase value to 35 points
  • Australia
