Cardrona ski resort is situated between Queenstown and Wanaka, at an altitude of 1650m. The resort expanded its operation into the Soho Basin with a new chair lift and a two-storey building housing retail and restaurant facilities.
The project had a tight delivery programme to meet the 2025 ski-season. Dealing with the logistics of the weather, including snow, and the altitude and remoteness of the site added to the complexity.
Thermally broken curtainwall installation
Thermosash delivered the glazed facade solution on the East Elevation for the two-storey building - supplying and installing our High Performance PW1000-TB200 (thermally broken) unitised curtainwall system with custom insulated Low E glass units (IGUs) fitted with capillary tubes. The tubes allow for equalization of air pressure within the IGUs to the ambient air pressure, mitigating the risk of stress fractures or seal failures due to pressure differentials.
The PW1000-TB200 system not only provides robust thermal performance engineered to meet the demands of extreme temperature fluctuations but also maintains visual clarity and durability - offering a comfortable internal environment for skiing enthusiast to relax in.

Prefabricated unitised systems
Thermosash's engineered and prefabricated unitised systems enable the rapid closing in of buildings with no onsite part assembly - units are installed like 'Lego' each unit perfectly fits into the next. With robust factory QA/QC processes the units are precision manufactured with in-house expertise across the entire process.
